Yes. The Formation Year is a separate year of LUMEN for the family that keeps its own books for Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Debate & History. It holds the Saints' Journey, the Saints' Room, Bosco, the family record and the whole quest library, for every child. See what is in it and what is not.

LUMEN is written to be. Every session is anchored to Scripture and the Catechism; the Socratic method governs the how, and the Creed governs the what. The teaching voices never answer a question a child can wrestle with, and they never put revealed truth to a vote. And in plain terms: LUMEN is a catechetical aid for families, not a catechism, not an official text, and it carries no ecclesiastical approbation. It is built to be used alongside your parish and your diocese's standards, and it points you to them.

If you can love your children and follow a weekly brief, you are qualified. LUMEN was designed so the system carries the scheduling, sequencing, and tracking, and the Guide carries the relationship. Prep is 1–2 hours before each session, then 10–20 minutes per week. Your 30-minute set-up call with our voice assistant walks you through your first session.

That is what the Journey is built for. The whole family lives the same saint and the same theme at the same time, but each child works it at her own level, with her own books, memory work and exhibition standard. One dinner-table conversation, a depth for each child.

Every session ends in a public exhibition: children presenting real work to a real audience and taking judges' questions. Add co-ops, parish life, and siblings, and LUMEN learners get more reps at real-world presence than a classroom seat provides.

LUMEN is not an accredited school and does not issue transcripts. Like most homeschool families, you remain the school of record in your state. What the academy is built to give you is the evidence: a written mastery record, capstones, and an exhibition portfolio, organized so that assembling your homeschool transcript for the college conversation is a paperwork exercise rather than an archaeology project. The Apostle Round (14–18) is explicitly built toward launched work and that conversation.

It is, if you compare it with a box of books. It isn't built to replace a box of books. It's built to carry what you'd otherwise pay a school to carry: the sequencing, the record, the weekly report. The forming stays with you. And it is one price for the whole family: $500 a month paid annually, or $667 a month paid monthly. With three children that is $2,000 a child for the year; with five, $1,200.

We email you to help book your set-up call (and text too, only if you checked the optional SMS box), so nothing about day 8 is a surprise.

In some states, yes: certain education savings accounts and microgrants can pay for programs like LUMEN. But the rules differ sharply by state: several exclude homeschool families entirely, and some require annual rather than monthly billing. Your set-up call covers your state's actual rules rather than promising a blanket yes.
